At the onset of the Obama Administration, there was a lot of water cooler talk about how successful the implementation of renewable energy, weatherization, and solar energy initiatives would be. The idea of “green collar jobs” was in its infancy, and not many people found it palatable or realistic that going green meant a boost to the economy via job creation that would create more disposable income for more Americans.
Looking forward into 2011, we can see that with the help of 1603 Treasury Grant Program for Solar and Renewables, signed into law by President Obama, more jobs in the solar industry will become available as the solar industry continues to grow at healthy rates.
According to a December 30th iStockAnalyst article by Steve Alexander, “President Obama and our bipartisan champions in the Senate and House recognize that the solar industry is one of the fastest growing industries in our country, and this extension will create tens of thousands of new jobs for Americans.”
Jobs in solar energy in Arizona are no exception — in fact, Adair Solar has been busy in 2010 and expects to experience a growth in all quarters of the coming year. Make no mistake about it, solar installations in Phoenix and Scottsdale are on the rise, and the average Arizonan’s interest in investing in a solar water heater in Scottsdale or elsewhere in the Phoenix Metro Area has intensified — especially since the last two fiscal quarters of 2008.
When you weigh out your options in solar power equipment in Arizona, always remember that tax credits for solar energy and rebates on solar equipment and installations are available to most homeowners across Arizona and the rest of the country too. Adair Solar offers free in-home consultations to help you determine if solar panels and/or a solar water heater are good choices for you. Call us today at (480) 827-1162.

This past Christmas morning, moms and dads across the country may have noticed a little announcement on the backs of Crayola crayon boxes all over the world. The art supply company is announcing that it now uses solar energy to make more than a billion crayons a year! Now THAT’s something that would make the Grinch’s heart grow two sizes in one day too!
So how does it work? Well, Crayola has switched up a lot of how it plays the game, and for the most part it makes good business sense–not just because it saves the company money, but because today’s moms and dads are far more “green thinking” than their parents were. They want to leave the planet in the best possible shape for their own kids and grandkids, and most parents understand that solar power and other renewable energy sources play a huge role in achieving that goal.
Crayola also recycles diligently and has a huge influence–the message is that caring for the environment is as important as enjoying it. For every single tree that Crayola uses in the making of its crayons and other products, it plants one in its place. It seems as though it may be fair to say that going green is child’s play!
Comment here and tell us about other companies you know about that are using solar energy to better their business and save the environment.

In all 15 counties in Arizona that it operates, APS offers a solar energy calculator to help residents and homeowners figure out approximately how much they will save, and how much they will ultimately spend in a given month on power once they have solar panels and/or solar water heaters installed on their homes or commercial spaces.
This nifty tool is available right on the APS web site and offers two different kinds of calculations. First, there is the calculation that residents can use when they sign into their online APS account. What this solar savings calculator does is gather information from the previous months history to evaluate savings in an individualized manner–in this respect, a homeowner can know within relatively precise detail what they can expect to save in energy expenses when they have solar panels and/or a solar water heater installed on their home.
The next type of APS solar calculator is a tool that consumers can use to determine more generally–and without signing in–what they can expect to save when they install solar equipment on a home in Arizona. This general sort of solar calculator gives users data based on energy usage in a given area/county and creates data based upon averages.
Both solar energy savings calculator tools are quite useful and a great utility offered completely free of charge from APS. When you have decided to install solar equipment on your Arizona home, use the calculator to figure out your potential savings–you’ll be quite pleased with the figures you see!

While it may seem simple to those of us in the solar energy industry, how a solar water heater works may not be quite as easy to understand for the average person or the homeowner considering installing a solar water heater in Arizona.
First, in order for a solar water heater to get what it needs from the sun to heat water, there has to be a solar collector installed–this is generally installed to the roof of a residence or commercial building. This solar collector will use the power of the sun’s strong Arizona rays to warm up the water running through the system of the home–this makes it possible for there to be hot water available on tap throughout the plumbing system used within the residence.
Next, with constant circulation through the solar collectors, water maintains a “fresh warmth” so that water continues to stay hot throughout the day and into the evening and nighttime hours. Oftentimes, homeowners are reluctant to buy into solar energy, especially solar water heaters in Arizona because they are laboring under the misconception that once the sun goes down, hot water will be in short supply. NOT SO! Unless you are using hot or warm water to water your lawn or garden well into the evening and in mass quantities, you will have hot water until the sun rises again the following day and begins to heat the water as it continues to circulate through the solar collectors and the plumbing system of any home.

Solar Water Heater in Arizona made easy
Filed under Arizona energy consumption, Arizona solar power companiesDec 15It’s no secret that Arizona gets more rays than just about anywhere on Earth that’s livable. So it would seem that heating your water using the sun would be the rule and not the exception here under the desert sun. Well, it’s moving toward that trend.
APS notes that about 15 percent of the average consumer’s electricity bill is spent heating water… and that essentially that portion of your electricity bill just goes away when you opt to install a solar powered water heater in Arizona.
So, what’s the secret? There isn’t one! We live where the sun prevails over all things, and so we should use the sun as often as we can IN all things we do.
Now that Adair Solar has given away a free solar water heater, we hope that the recipient will enjoy a long solar water heater lifetime of saving money and saving the environment as well.
Stay tuned for more developments in how APS can save consumers like you money when you choose to go solar. The time to choose the sun as your power source is now!

No! Many consumers are under the impression that if temperatures fall too low, a solar water heater in Arizona and in colder climates will freeze or otherwise malfunction. Not so!
In years past, many solar water heaters were not capable of “freeze resistance” during colder seasons, but even if they did freeze at any point, their functionality was not compromised. With today’s solar hot water heaters, freezing is not an issue, and certainly not in Arizona.
Many Arizona residents know they have to cover outdoor plants and greenery to keep them from dying in the cold. This is smart practice, but an Adair Stealth Solar Thermal system will never need to be a worry on those chilly nights.
With a solar water heater in Phoenix, residents can expect to save plenty of money, and also not have to worry about an aging solar water heating system that can cause problems — not to mention the additional cost they create by inefficiently using energy.
So, no, your solar water heater will not freeze during the winter months and you will not have to give it any additional TLC to keep it from freezing or malfunctioning because of a freeze-over.
Don’t forget that Adair Solar is GIVING AWAY a free solar water heater in our Winter Giveaway this year. The lucky winner will receive a free solar water heater and free installation too! Interested Arizona homeowners can contact jdiaz@adairsolar.com for more details.
